The following information applies to DC powered mobile devices such as mobile phones, smart phones, MP3 players and
bluetooth headsets. It DOES NOT apply to higher power DC devices like Laptop
computors, or AC powered appliances like curling irons and hair dryers.
- What other Countries will my US charger work in?
- The countries that your US style charger will work in depends upon the voltage and frequency rating of
your charger. If your charger has a fixed voltage input rating of between 100 ∧ 120v and a 60Hz frequency
(this will usually be indicated on a label somewhere on the charger, see label example top right.
If you can not find it, always assume it is fixed voltage/frequency) it can only be used in
These Countries.
- If, however your charger has a variable voltage/frequency input rating of 100-240v/50-60Hz,
similar to the Compact Travel Dual USB AC Charger
(indicated by a label similar to the one bottom right. Most modern mobile device chargers today are variable)
then it can be used in all of These Countries.
If you will be traveling to any other Countries you will need to bring an adaptor and possibly a voltage
converter with you in order to charge your device.
- Do I need a voltage converter for my mobile devices when traveling to foreign Countries?
- Usually you will not need a voltage convertor to charge your mobile devices in foreign countries.
If you have a variable voltage charger as indicated above, you do not need a voltage convertor since your
charger is safe to use in ALL COUNTRIES, but you may need an adaptor in order to fit the local power
outlets. If you have a fixed voltage charger as indicated above, you will need to bring a voltage
convertor. For information on the type of voltage convertor you will need, please refer to your mobile
device documentation.
- Where can I get a list of the electrical specifications used in different Countries?
- Where can I get a list of plug adapters I need to charge my mobile devices in different Countries?
- While there are over 15 different power socket standards
used throughout the world, many of them accept the European style "Type C" plug, which means that there are
really only 3 different adapters that you need. In fact, if you have a US charger and the "Type C"
adapter you can charge your mobile devices in over 180 Countries.
We have put together a simple list of Plug Adapters Required by Country. Check it out.
